Plenty of players walk into the Heavy Fuse Grenade Trial thinking they've got a damage problem. Same grenades, same target, same run, yet one player gets three stars while another sits there with two and a headache. If you're sorting your loadout or looking to buy ARC Raiders Items before more attempts, it's worth knowing the real trick first: the grenade needs to explode under the Bombardier, not on it, beside it, or somewhere near its upper body.



Why the damage feels all over the place
The Heavy Fuse Grenade doesn't behave like a flat damage button. Where it blows up changes everything. How to set up the throw
Don't overthink it. Bring enough Heavy Fuse Grenades, wait for the Bombardier to settle, and aim to make the grenade bounce or roll beneath it. You're not trying to stick the top. You're not trying to clip some perfect weak point. You just want the fuse to finish while the grenade is under the body. A top detonation may sit around the lower damage range, a side hit can land somewhere in the middle, and a bottom blast can push far higher. That one detail is the difference between wasting runs and clearing the trial cleanly.

Things that usually make it worse
A lot of players add extra steps because it feels like they should. They stun the Bombardier, strip armor, reposition too much, or keep chasing a perfect angle. Often, that just ruins the timing. The grenade bounces wrong, lands too far out, or explodes against the upper frame. Keep it boring. Let the Bombardier give you a stable window, then throw for the underside. Also, keep your grenade supply healthy. Canisters matter, so check commercial loot spots, recycle the right materials, and buy what you can from Celeste when it makes sense. Water filters can help with materials, but don't mix them up with water pumps if you're trying to build more grenades.

What to focus on next
